Leaving the city of Lima behind, we flew over the Andes into sunshine, blue skies and high altitude to Cusco (about 11,000 ft above sea level). The pills for altitude sickness helped along with plenty of water, but the dryness in the air lead to sinus headaches. I did have cocoa tea which the locals use to ward off altitude sickness. It may have helped to keep me hydrated and warm more than anything else.
Below is a very interesting of a lineman at work in Cusco. I wondered how he knew which line was which and what to connect it to.
When we turned in for the night, the heat was on, but not enough to warm me up. Once in bed and to my pleasant surprise, my feet discovered a fleece covered hot water bottle. I got out of bed to grab the one in the other bed. Heaven!!! And before I drifted contently into the Land of Nod, I was wondering if I could buy one on Amazon.
Tomorrow we tour an Inca settlement still in use and continue on to Macchu Picchu.
