Newport is home to historic mansions now under the care of the Preservation Society of Newport County. These homes were the getaway places for the very rich during the Gilded Age of the late 1800's. We toured The Breakers owned by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, favorite grandson of Cornelius "Commodore" Vanderbilt. The Breakers and some of the other mansions overlook the Rhode Island Sound. Newport has a Cliff Walk (dogs on leash) that runs along the cliff behind these houses affording you another view and a good walk.
Also in Newport is the Audrain Automobile Museum that re-opened with a new exhibit the day we came. Cars are not high on my list of favorites, but there was one that I would love to have in my driveway. Enjoy the photos.
